What this project was.

  • Project type English-language expat news & lifestyle platform
  • Platform WordPress with a custom editorial presentation
  • Primary goal Make useful Netherlands content easy to publish, discover, and navigate
Nº 01 — The ChallengeThe Dutch Daily

A publication needs more than a pretty homepage.

The Dutch Daily needed to feel like a real publication rather than a generic corporate website. The structure had to support frequent articles, clear topic discovery, strong visual hierarchy, and an audience that often arrives from search looking for a specific answer about life in the Netherlands.

Nº 01 Editorial structure Content is organised around clear topic areas such as living in the Netherlands, business, technology, culture, travel, and LGBTQ+ coverage, so readers can move from one useful story to the next.
Nº 02 Search-first thinking The page hierarchy and content presentation are designed around discoverability: descriptive headings, logical categories, readable article cards, and a structure that can grow with an expanding content library.
Nº 03 Reader experience Large visual stories create entry points while concise labels and summaries help readers understand what a piece is about before they commit to reading it.
Nº 04 Maintainable publishing WordPress keeps the publishing workflow practical, while the front-end presentation is tailored to the publication instead of looking like an off-the-shelf blog theme.

Nº 04 Visual storytelling article cards and hero areas use imagery to create clear entry points for high-value stories.
Nº 05 Conversion paths navigation and contact/newsletter touchpoints are kept visible without overwhelming the editorial experience.

Nº 03 — Seo AngleThe Dutch Daily

A content platform designed to compound.

For a publication, SEO is not a single optimisation task. It is an architecture problem: every new article should have a sensible home, a clear topic relationship, and a useful path to related content. The Dutch Daily's structure is designed to support that compounding effect as the content library grows.

Nº 01 Topic clusters Categories give search engines and readers clearer context around recurring subjects, from Dutch life and housing to business, tech, culture, and events.
Nº 02 Readable content hierarchy Strong headings, summaries, labels, and internal navigation make pages easier to scan and create more opportunities for meaningful internal links.
Nº 03 Evergreen + timely content High-intent guides can keep attracting search traffic while timely stories give the publication reasons to return and publish frequently.
Nº 04 Scalable foundation The goal is not a one-off SEO spike. It is a site structure that remains useful as more articles, categories, authors, and landing pages are added.
